It's hard to say what part of his former vocation as a race car driver that local businessman Mark Steves enjoyed the most. Of course, the adrenaline rush of the speed he attained was something that got his blood going. But what Mark really focused on, what he really loved the most, was the way he felt behind the wheel during a race. The sheer focus racing required, the concentration it demanded, that was everything for him.
Ahead of the Pack
"I loved pushing myself to the limits, always trying for a faster time," Mark explains. "I loved setting my sights on the winner's circle and doing whatever it took to get there." Though it's been a few years, competing in NASCAR's Sportsman's Class was one of Mark's favorite pastimes. When he broke records at Ascot Park and Pearsonville Speedway, it wasn't just his ability to drive fast, but his desire to excel. "It was a rush," Mark recalls. "Knowing I had pushed it to the limit was the greatest accomplishment of all."
Nowadays when Mark feels the need for speed, he sits behind his tournament ski boat and glides across Lake Lawrence while his kids, Jeremy and Jessica, ski or wakeboard behind him.

Born and raised in Southern California, Mark had the opportunity to spend a few years of his childhood in Thurston County. Later in life, he realized that it was the only place he wanted to live and raise a family. After graduating from the University of Redlands, California, Mark moved his family to Yelm and never looked back. "This is the most ideal place to raise a family," he says. "Everything I've ever wanted is here." From church activities to participating in the community's Cancer Walk, Mark always strives to make a difference for others. He enjoys giving back to the area that has meant so much to him.
When he's not assisting his clients, Mark enjoys watching his children showcase their talents in music, as well as taking friends out on the boat for some skiing. For Mark, it's the quality of life in Yelm that spurs him to excel and do his best for his kids and clients.
